Jean-David and I flew to France for a vacation. We spent the first week with his parents and visited family (and I took one trip to the Louvre)
I had my birthday while I was there, I had a great time. My
parents-in-law bought me a cake and we had a little celebration. I loved my gifts; my parent's-in-law gave me a really cute key chain that has a silver duck on it (it is so nice, I will probably convert it to a
necklace), and my husband gave me a beautiful Swarovski crystal necklace (click here to see a picture) It has little crystals between two pieces of glass. It is beautiful!
My brother-in-law and his girlfriend bought me two hours in a spa in Brittany (where we spent our second week's vacation) where I underwent "aqua treatments." It was the first time I had done
anything like that, so it was really fun! It was all about relaxation. (Lucky for us, that was the only day it rained, so it worked out perfectly! We were in the spa anyway, so we didn't care if it rained!)
We attended a wedding while we were in Paris. Our friend Eric (he was our best man) was getting married. In France, they have a courthouse wedding, and then also a religious wedding. We went to the court house, and
after that we had a fabulous sit-down dinner with about 50 other guests (many who were dressed in floor length formals!). Eric's family is from Israel, so it was very interesting food! We had to leave early before
the big ceremony (I have no idea what they did, but something special was going to happen) because we were jet lagged!
A couple of days later we went to the religious ceremony in a really old Synagogue, it
was really interesting. I had not been to a Synagogue before, all the men sat on one side and the women sat on the other!
After that, we went home and changed into our formals, and then we went to the huge
reception. There were 300 people in attendance. It was so amazing, for the first hour, we were let into a large room filled with every kind of hors d'oeuvres imaginable, from fois gras to seafood type stuff. Wow!
Fruit, bread cheese, the list goes on. We snacked a bit, trying not to eat too much, because we knew a dinner was coming. So after that, they led us into another room where there were tables for everyone for a
sit-down dinner. We had a fabulous veal dinner with all the wonderful food that goes with it.
They had a 15 piece band that was really hopping. So much dancing! It was such a blast! We all danced a lot! (My
parents-in-law, my brother-in-law and his girlfriend were there with us.) There were many instances of "circle dancing" where everyone holds hands and dances in a circle (kind of like Greek dancing.) FUN!
The next week we spent in Brittany at a place called Quiberon - a well known beach locale that was just fabulous! http://www.quiberon.com/ We slept late every day and spent our afternoons on the beach reading and hanging out.
The first day we were there was totally cool because it was July 14th which is "Bastille Day" in France. We saw a band on the beach called "Kreposuk" (http://www.prod-mc.com/groupes/kreposuk/kreposuk_index.html) which basically is a child's way of saying "sugar crepes." It was Celtic
Rock - funnn! We bought their CD, which is great, because it really reminds me of being there to hear that music! That night was a fabulous display of fireworks! It was so beautiful!
Quiberon is called an
"almost island" because it is basically an island with a road connecting it to France. It has two coasts, one is called the "Cote Savage" or the "Savage Coast" where the waves are huge
and crashing down. Wow! One day we climbed down the rock-cliff to a private beach where we had lunch and looked around in some caves, and then I went swimming in the Atlantic. Wowza! That was a great day! Brittany
is famous for it's crepes, so we had that for 3 nights (for dinner.) Wow, that was so good!
We rented bikes at the beginning of the week and rode them everywhere, so we got a lot of exercise while exploring
the "almost" island.
I really hated coming back! Wah! Being at work is so harsh after vacation!!!
